Year 253, Winter – K Tuesday, Jan 31 2023

How fitting that fell winter brings another siege. I pity the goblin soldiers, masked with chill iron and driven marching in the frigid rain…

These foes hail from The Rounded Devil, a close neighbor and established enemy of our people the Sorcerous Mirrors. No doubt they marched overnight from the nearby fortress Cloudfountains.

Year 253, Autumn – K Saturday, Jan 28 2023

May this advent of our humility not be our fort’s final days, that we may survive long enough to learn.

The necromancer of Oilfrill, our southern neighbor, is no longer content with his horrific intricacies. Our recent raid there has made us an eager enemy:

They slaughtered the sentry pets at our borders, innocent creatures alerting us with their cries as crossbow bolts pierced them. I hope these torments are evil whimsy, not some grand plan. My heart could not bear to fight zombie kittens.

Year 253, Summer – K Wednesday, Jan 25 2023

All praise to Armok – two lunar cycles have passed without any werebeast activity! Once again we may open our peerless doors to the world.

BFFs

Sibrek and Meng reassured and inspired us during the quarantine, and now that it’s over, we’ve put Meng himself in charge of the newly reopened tavern! He’ll get to tell his story as many times as he wants, to every friend and foreigner that sits down at our well-equipped tables – including the priceless artifact Nokzamnerrid, central to the small but opulent dining room.

1 Granite

I’ve just returned from the bloodsoaked halls northeastunder the trade depot… the red tint upon the ore stockpile isn’t due to iron content.

Year 253, preliminaries – K Wednesday, Jan 11 2023

What bliss, to spend the winter shut up behind beautiful stone, stalwartly blocking the obscene ices. I have pored over our shapely fortress for flaws, imperfections, inefficiencies – we will never cease to demonstrate true order, true propriety to the curious mobs who visit.

Moonstone 5

Ignore me, look at the bees.

More snatchers, this time a single goblin thief was spotted just inside the gates. The Cobalt Gears have been dispatched to end her. Upon being spotted by the militia she wisely fled, however the south and east gates where both closed before she could exit leaving her to desperately run up the fortifications in an attempt to get away. She is much faster than any of the guards, and they are not well trained yet, but with (finally) all gates closed she has nowhere to run. Several dwarves are trapped outside, but it isn’t long before the militia catches up to her and takes her down. An auspicious start to winter, none of the militia was even wounded in the fracas.

Limestone 13

I’m just a necromancer who’s intentions are good.

Drink stores are back over 300 and climbing slowly but steadily. The Shrine for the Faith of Bone is slowly being improved. The only potential pall on the otherwise improving state of affairs is the arrival of Snodub.

Granite 1

Well, a murder sure is one way to start. I’ve taken stock of the fort. It may be that Mon is somehow responsible, maybe distracting everyone with her story while someone else did the deed.

At the time the corpse was discovered she was telling a story.

Year 251 by M Saturday, Dec 31 2022

Goden Metalfind chewed on his quill. No migrants. All year and no migrants. Visions of total disgrace consumed him. What must they think back home – a fledgling fort consumed by frivolity and leisure, forswearing the dwarven virtues of industry and avarice. He trembled at the thought. If only they could see how much we have accomplished!
