Well, a murder sure is one way to start. I’ve taken stock of the fort. It may be that Mon is somehow responsible, maybe distracting everyone with her story while someone else did the deed.

Life in the tavern continues as if nothing happened. Caraca Fewethathiwa, and Elf Dancer, finally came and hauled her apprentice Dumed’s body to the corpse pile, which was empty other than a pile of bones that apparently belonged to Onget Kollaven. It’s not known how he died though rumors say it may have been a just a Llamma.

We re-started the work on progressing the awning, but several dwarves have gotten stuck. Nothing like having someone ‘Amontilladdo’ed in plain view. Creating a rescue plan for our stranded folk will have to take priority over continued construction as much as protection from the elements is desired.
Our hospital was also woefully basic so some digging has been set in place to allow for a nearby well via channel from the river, as usual scale creep has set in and groundwork for expansion is being laid at the same time which may slow the development of this project.

Ramps have been built and Kumil and the other trapped dwarves have been freed. In other news Kadol Dreamygem has petitioned to reside in Brasslances, claiming tis for the purpose of entertaining. That’s all well and good, but all of these entertainers have been freeloading long enough. It’s now be pronounced that Hauling a specific quota is required of all entertainers to maintain their free bar tabs.

Progress on the Hospital well goes apace, however during excavation of the main channel to bring water from the brook huge veins of limonite and magnetite we discovered, and the decision to mine them out completely has the secondary benefit of giving a good amount of reservoir space. It just may take a concerted effort to pull all the ore before the channel is flooded.
Dumed’s resting place is finalized, but somehow a blank headstone was installed. So we will show any visitors that even outsiders remains are treated with respect eventually.

Two more drawbridges have been completed, and Dumed has been interred. Space for levers to open/close the gates has been designated. Some above ground gardens have been set up on the west side to attempt to grow some additional crops, perhaps more interesting alcohols can be created.

Uh oh, looks like we’ve got a snatcher or something!

A quick militia was mustered, but it was to late, by the time the call had gone out, Ast was slipping out the south gate. What he took may forever remain a mystery. Hopefully it was but some simple trinket which we can make a finer example of without issue.
The militia has been now disbanded again, but labor has been interrupted, digging of the cistern falters as miners pick new tasks at random from the labor board.

Saba Calathialisa, one of Dumed’s contemporaries was in the process of carrying the memorial slab to finish her tomb when I noticed another corpse being deposited in the pile nearby. Udib Stakududist, a Poet. Checking the records it appears that Onget was a Bard who came to visit. I suppose we’ll need to expand the necropolis. Hopefully all of these entertainers are dying of old age, as if there is another cause we certainly haven’t gotten any alerts or concern from witnesses.

Migrants have arrived, this brings our total populace to 54 if you discount the folks who are hanging out in the tavern. I suppose we’ll have to put a hold on the cistern and build some housing. However there seems to be some sort of pathing issue, miners won’t mine, I can’t place beds in several of the existing rooms (no access) and I can’t figure out why.

Thikut Dorenezum was the first to spot the titanic beast, and without heed to her own safety she charged forward, attempting to kill the beast before it could enter the fort. She landed several true blows, leaving it bleeding heavily but was slain just inside the threshold of the west gate, fortunately she bought enough time for the rest of our erstwhile militia to assemble and charge into battle.
Bomrek Zeggoden and the Goblin Dancer Atu both join the fray and while they both manage to avoid Ducim’s blows they aren’t able to inflict any damage, however Stonemaster Onget Edimnomal lands the killing blow after effortlessly deflecting a single strike from the Weremammoth, severing it’s enormous head from the rest of the body.

As the end of Spring looms nigh a reworking of the housing ramps has been undertaken to allow for easier access. The Necropolis has used the last of the Rock Salt Blocks, but more will be made soon.
Levers have been completed which will allow for some semblance of safety, though the awning will need to be progressed in earnest for any actual security to be provided, as at the moment even with all three closed, any creature could just amble in over the mountain slope. I wish I’d built the west bridge & lever from different materials, but a mined out shaft is not easily put back
as they say.

Construction on the second stage of the Necropolis can finally progress again thanks to Ilral Sazirlikot. Thikut’s coffin has been placed, but his headstone has not been carved as of yet, though I’ve been assured plans are in motion. Meanwhile despite having tombs, several of the bones of our erstwhile guests appear to be too far gone to interr, elsewise we have just not issued the right order to ensure it.
This isn’t all bad as at least we have a spare tomb now available should any more companions pass away in the future, allowing us to refocus the construction team on more important tasks. However we will need to heavily step up the production of Rock Salt Blocks. I’m thinking maybe the 2nd floor could be another material entirely?A Dwarf laboring is as right as a well fitted stone.

As Spring draws to a close the new utilitarian bedrooms start going up. Housing is so dire that beds are being installed in rooms full of piles of rock.
Summer is upon us, hopefully no more ills will befall the fort, and housing can be accomplished allowing us to return to building the cistern and providing fresh water to the fort in the event of any more injuries.
(This has gone on long, but I’ve been playing very slowly, apologies. More to come, but at this rate it might be a bit before I finish the year…)
